  • Jazz Appreciation Month is a music festival held every April in the United States, in honor of jazz as an early American art form.
  • Now is the time to advocate for the preservation of Jazz, created by African Americans
  • Arts & Music support tourism in your city. Today’s buzzword to describe a community's investment in arts and culture is “creative place making” (using the arts to develop areas where people want to live, work and congregate). In November 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30 as  in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. International Jazz Day is chaired and led by Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director General, and legendary jazz pianist and composer ."

Here is a question that all local officials ask themselves: How can we attract and retain profitable businesses and talented people? Key components of such efforts must include arts and culture.

Jazz Appreciation Month (fondly known as "JAM") was created in 2002 by the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

JAM is intended to stimulate and encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz - to study the music, attend concerts, listen to jazz, read books about jazz, and more.
